Project Details

I-565, the busiest interstate highway in northern Alabama, is a vital connector for the city of Huntsville and other major interstates. With its proximity to the US Space and Rocket Center and the Redstone Arsenal, this stretch of highway is crucial for transportation and commerce in the area.

The recent improvements to the highway were challenging, with the Stone-Matrix Asphalt and Open Graded Friction Course layers requiring milling and replacing. However, Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc. proposed an alternative sequence that allowed for an accelerated paving cycle, turning the project into a successful mill and fill operation.

Thanks to this innovative approach, the interstate was opened sooner than expected, benefitting both Wiregrass and ALDOT. Their collaboration and innovative thinking made the project a success, and these efforts will undoubtedly help northern Alabama continue to thrive.
