The Asphalt laborer will follow directions instructions and specifications as determined by supervisor. Will work and operate equipment in a safe manner and adhere to all safety and environmental rules.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Responsible for manufacturing various asphalt products according to mix design and customer jobsite specifications.
  • Performs pre and post shift inspections and reports condition of plant for items needing repair
  • Operates controls to batch material.
  • Reads and/or writes delivery tickets to determine mix design called for each load.
  • Performs calculations for differing load sizes.
  • Loads Hot Mix asphalt into haul trucks.
  • Issue delivery tickets to haul truck driver.
  • Operates loader to supply material to the plant.
  • Communicates with dispatchers and drivers.
  • Controls inventory of materials.
  • Ensure all tools are stored properly at the end of each shift.
  • Responsible for notifying department lead of any potential safety or equipment issues immediately.
  • Responsible for following processes and procedures correctly.
  • Responsible for wearing appropriate clothing, shoes, and personnel protective equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position:
  • Must have the ability to acquire understanding and absorb new information (a quick study).
  • Must have the ability to be careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team setting and establish collaborative peer relationship.
  • Must have the ability to detect problems, errors, omissions, miscalculations, and non-compliance against requirements.
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, schedule work in efficient and productive manner.  Ability to focus on key priority, juggles multiple projects, and manages time effectively.
  • Must have the ability to maintain poise and composure under heavy pressure from supervisors and/or company officers.
  • Must have the ability to adapt and adjust quickly to changing priorities or work demands without adverse impact on performance or team dynamics.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal communication.
  • Must have the ability to listen, comprehend directives, inquiries and/or comments, and decipher intent and meaning.
  • Must have the ability to exhibit a can do attitude.
  • Must be reliable, responsible and dependable.
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold, also moderate to high noise levels.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen, as well as have reliable transportation.
Education and Experience:
  • Ideal candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ideal candidate should have two to three years’ experience in asphalt manufacturing/plant operation.

The concrete finisher will smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete under the direction of their supervisor.  Will work and operate equipment in a safe manner and adhere to all safety and environmental rules.

 Primary duties:

  • Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them.
  • Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
  • Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.
  • Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process.
  • Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
  • Clean chipped area, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven.
  • Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms.
  • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface.
  • Load and unload materials
  • Shovel dirt, gravel, and asphalt
  • General clean up around job site
  • Ensure all tools are stored properly at the end of each shift.

  • Lifting and carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs (+-75%) of the time
  • Standing/walking/climbing (+-75%)of the time
  • Occasional sitting in a normal position for an extended time (+-25%)of the time
  • Frequent reaching/handling/feeling (+-70%) of the time
  • Frequent use of finger dexterity (+70%) of the time.

Working Conditions:

  • Noise level is moderate to high.
  • Work environment is not environmentally controlled, exposed to extreme heat and cold.

Education:

  • Ideal candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Ideal candidate should have six months to one year experience in concrete finishing.

 Other Skills/Ability:

  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • The ability to see details at close range.
  • Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions.
