Asphalt Manufacturing

CONVENTIONAL ASPHALT is produced by heating the asphalt binder to decrease its viscosity, and drying the aggregate to remove moisture from it prior to mixing. Paving and compaction must be performed to meet engineering requirements.

Warm mix asphalt allows the producers of asphalt pavement material to lower the temperatures (by 50 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit) at which the material is mixed and placed on the road. Such drastic reductions have the obvious benefits of cutting fuel consumption and decreasing the production of greenhouse gases, also reducing the production of emissions, there-by improving conditions for workers. Warm mix asphalt is quickly becoming a predominant method highway paving.

POROUS ASPHALT pavements offer developers and planners a new tool in their toolbox for managing storm water. These pavements, used mostly for parking lots, allow water to drain through the pavement surface into a stone recharge bed and infiltrate into the soils below the pavement. Such pavements have been proving their worth since the mid-1970s, and recent changes in storm water regulations have prompted many consulting engineers and public works officials to seek information about them.

COLD MIX ASPHALT is produced by emulsifying the asphalt in water prior to mixing with the aggregate. While in its emulsified state the asphalt is less viscous and the mixture is easy to work and compact. The emulsion will break after enough water evaporates and the cold mix will, ideally, take on the properties of cold HMAC. Cold mix is commonly used as a patching material and on lesser trafficked service roads.

  • Concrete Sand
  • Plant Sand
  • Mortar Sand
  • Golf Course Sand
  • The sand at Lambert Materials is high in silica content and is used in concrete, asphalt, and mortar. It is used to make greensmix for golf course applications as well as bunker sand and top dressing. This sand is white in color and has many other uses.

  • #89 Gravel Used in asphalt and golf course greens for drainage as well as other uses.
  • #7 Pea Gravel Used in Ready-Mix for decorative concrete and regular concrete. It is also used on roofs and is very popular for decorative uses.
  • #5 Gravel Used primarily as decorative gravel but can be used in landfills, concrete and other uses.
  • #67 Gravel Used primarily in concrete.
  • #57 Gravel Used primarily in concrete.
  • #4 Gravel Used primarily for decorative but can be used in landfills and other uses.
  • Oversize Gravel This is primarily sold for metallurgical gravel but some for decorative purposes.

This gravel is high in silica content, white in color, and has many uses. All of this gravel can be used for decorative purposes and most of it for more specific uses.
